Background
Muhororo District Hospital was established and began its operations in 1936 through a partnership between the Government of Belgium and the Government of Rwanda.
Located in Gasave, Karehe, and Rusumo villages, Kamasiga and Rusumo Cells, Gatumba Sector, Muhororo District Hospital is one of the two district hospitals serving Ngororero District in the Western Province of Rwanda. The hospital provides healthcare services to the community with a dedicated team of 146 clinical and non-clinical staff members and a bed capacity of 138.
The hospital serves a catchment population of 192,061 people through nine (9) affiliated health centers: Muhororo, Rubona, Ntobwe, Gashubi, Kageyo, Ntaganzwa, Rususa, Nyange A, and Nyange B. It supervises three (3) health posts: Nyamisa, Bwira, and Kiziguro. In addition, Muhororo District Hospital receives referral patients from neighboring districts, including Muhanga District to the South and Rutsiro District to the West.

The main mission of Muhororo District Hospital is to provide quality healthcare services that are accessible to the entire population, offer continuing education opportunities for all employees, and play a major role in disease prevention.
