Overall Role and Responsibilities
The Directorate of Medical and Allied Health Sciences is responsible for overseeing and developing the hospital's clinical departments through functions such as recruitment, performance evaluation, scheduling, and supervision of staff. The Unit develops strategies to promote continuous improvement and growth while providing clinical training and mentorship to staff and interns.
Key Duties and Tasks
- Identifying and developing the training needs of hospital staff, in collaboration with the Director General's Office and the Nursing and Midwifery Unit.
- Organizing training sessions for hospital staff in consultation with the Director General's Office.
- Participating in the Hospital Management Committee.
- Conducting daily monitoring of the quality of care in collaboration with the Director of Nursing.
- Participating in referral consultations.
- Participating in on-call duties, operating theatre activities, and emergency services.
- Preparing schedules for medical activities, including outpatient consultations, day-care services, and ward rounds.
- Ensuring compliance with the approved Essential Medicines List.
- Overseeing the processing of accreditation and re-accreditation applications for Medical Staff and Allied Health Professionals in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
- Providing administrative and professional support to Medical Staff leaders in fulfilling the responsibilities of their offices.
- Participating in the development of Medical Staff policies and monitoring the continuity and effectiveness of Medical Staff activities.
- Exercising direct accountability for all clinical services.
- Exercising direct accountability for services provided in the laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, physiotherapy, and other allied health departments.
- Working jointly with the Director of Nursing to oversee the quality of patient care throughout the hospital.
- Overseeing the operations of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Operating Theatres, Emergency Department, Outpatient Clinics, and Inpatient Wards, in collaboration with the Director of Nursing.
- Assuming direct responsibility for the training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students and medical officers. The Unit is also responsible for Continuing Medical Education (CME), coordinating all medical education programs within the hospital, fostering collaboration with academic and professional institutions, and ensuring the effective utilization of available national training resources.
- Preparing and assisting in the development of departmental operating and capital budgets.
- Deputizing for the Director General in his or her absence.
- Monitoring safety within the hospital environment, including the maintenance of facilities and emergency equipment, and advocating for corrective actions where necessary.
- Providing timely advice on the maintenance of damaged or malfunctioning equipment and fixtures, as well as promoting the efficient use of hospital resources.
- Ensuring the safe utilization of equipment.
- Promoting and providing guidance on the rational and appropriate use of medicines.
- Participating in incident analysis and contributing to the development and implementation of quality improvement plans.
